2009-05-03 - Today the first traditional bullfight of the year was held in Koguriyama, at the bullfight ring, just close to the facilities of Shinoda, Conias (Yozaemon), and Masaki.

There were roughly 1000 visitors today, sadly for me, as I was quit late, I had to park my car at the bottom of the mountain, and got my morning exercise……walking up the mountain…

As these traditional bullfights are totally different from the ones we know from, for example, Spain, the bulls hardly get serious injured. The bulls are lead to one another’s head and then they show the strength to each other by just pushing, like sumo wrestlers fight each other by just showing their strength.

On the second picture you can see “oji san” Marusaka, His grandson takes now part of the show with his own bull, so there are actually 3 generations of the Marusaka Family involved in these traditional bull fights.

Just to name some other Koi Breeders also involved in the bull fights : Izumiya, Shinoda, Singichi, Kataoka, Hide Hirasawa.
